Movie Night

We have friends coming over to watch a movie in the studio every Friday night.

It's always a fun experience, whether we end up watching a movie or just talking.

Movie of the week

This week, June 6th, we are going to watch "primer" I've seen it in a science fiction
festival in Israel 3 years ago or so, and though I can't remember exactly what it is
about I remember being impressed by it realism and minimalism.

Movies that we've seen and like

Bad Guy

This is one weird film - it took me a few days to even realize if I like it or not. But I think that just the fact that it made me think for so long makes it a really really good film.

I really like the way that though it's full of violence and prostitution and murder, it's still a very "clean" movie that speaks about ideal and honor.

Mirror Mask

A really visual movie with a lot of cool graphics and really beautiful illustrations. I think what I like about it the most is the combination of a very harsh realistic world with a really soft fantasy \ dream one. Plus the story made me think of my family and of growing up.

Cinema Paradiso

We saw the directors cut

There were a few scenes added

I thought it was a beautiful film

that challenges nostalgia

Sympathy for lady Vengeance

Incredibly violent

yet I found myself very sympathetic

even though the main character was completely self serving

A great ride

Be prepared...

Princess Monomoke

One of the most feminist films I've ever watched, with 2 really strong beautiful female character and a boy who's trying to make peace between them. The movie's really refreshing for not having and battle between good and evil, but a conflict between 2 approaches to life. and it's also very beautiful visually.

Naked lunch

A very tripy film

We enjoyed it while on Absinth

which helped it make sense

Afterlife

The story of this film is about a group of people who die and find themselves in check point out between life and death where they need to choose one memory from their lives in which to spent forever.

It made me think a lot about life and death and memories and what do i put value on.

Eight and a half women

I've never seen a group of people evacuate from a room fasted then when we showed "eight and a half women". This film deal with so many sexual and social taboos (homosexuality, insects, prostitution, gender, bestiality and a few more, and in such an open way that people felt uncomfortable looking in each other's eyes after it was done. Personally, I really like this film.

Amelie

Amelie is like peanut butter chocolate pie - somehow it manage to be the sweetest thing in existence while at the same time, not disgusting at all. The small love story is being balanced with a lot of humor and humanity, and the movie got so many little jokes and detail, it's still interesting even when I watched it for the 5th time.

The dark crystal

As amazing today

as when I saw it in high school in the 80's

I can watch it over and over

Night watch

A beautiful and dark film

about choices between "good" and "Bad"

"Good" is not pure

neither is "Bad"

It's an amazing film

existenz

I've seen this movie a few years ago and expected to like it less now that the internet and the gaming industry changed so much. I think I actually liked it more now, the philosophical question of reality and non-reality seem relevant then ever.
